GTRI’s Office of Policy Analysis and Research Summer 2008 internship program

In its sixth semester, OPAR has had approximately 20 intern policy analysts from several GT colleges.  We are quite pleased to report the OPAR internship experience has been consistently positive.

For this summer semester, we are seeking six to eight students from all disciplines.  This is an unpaid position but we encourage students to pursue class credit and this is a great line for your resume.  Deadline for applications is March 31, 2008.

If you are interested in applying, please send a resume and brief writing sample (3-5) to Jessica Pater at  Acceptable writing submissions include, but are not limited to policy briefings, memoranda and articles.  Previously submitted class assignments are acceptable.  Based on your written application, you will be contacted for an interview.  Selected candidates will be announced by late April 2008.

Students, this is an excellent opportunity to develop a variety of professional skills and to apply your classroom knowledge to actual policy analysis. A current BSPP intern at OPAR says about it, “I was introduced to OPAR and some of the GTRI researchers. Quickly it became apparent that my focus this semester would be on a project called “Technology To Policy” (T2P). The fundamental goal of T2P is to be able ‘to forecast the public policy impact of newly invented or developed technologies.'” The student is exploring a new area of biotechnology and its possible implications.
